I’m Mike Masin, a democrat with a lower-case D because I don’t limit my beliefs to identity politics. I don’t wear a red or blue vest, and I don’t wear an elephant or donkey pin. The only pin I wear is an American flag. My core beliefs are what once were a mix of Democratic and Republican party principles. They’re predominantly Democratic party principles now: democracy, rule-of-law, voting rights, social equality, total separation of church and state, and equal opportunity. I choose my party affiliation based on the candidates I support or oppose in primary elections. I’ve registered as both Republican and Democratic over the years. These days, I’m disgusted by most of the Republican party members. Their view and my view of American democracy are vastly different. and I question if I’ll ever support Republican candidates again.
