Hi, I’m Mike Masin.
I’m a democrat, but that’s with a lower-case D because I don’t limit my beliefs to identity politics. I don’t wear a red or blue vest, and I don’t wear an elephant or donkey pin; I wear an American flag.
My core beliefs are what once was a mix of Democratic and Republican party principles. They’re predominantly Democratic party principles now: democracy, the rule of law, voting rights, social equality, total separation of church and state, and equal opportunity.
I choose my party affiliation to support or oppose candidates in primary elections. I’ve registered as both Republican and Democratic over the years. These days, I’m disgusted by most of the Republican party members. Their views and my view of American democracy are vastly different. I question if I’ll ever support Republican candidates again.
